Why You Shouldn’t Talk to the Police

BY David Corrigan (Follow on Twitter @d_corrigan)

This week at Progressive Martial Arts, we had a few discussions involving the legal ramifications of defending yourself. Our discussions took us through many scenarios, ranging from just defending yourself with strikes, and using lethal force with weapons.

When any of these scenarios occur, it may be a good idea to contact the police and notify them that you were attacked and that you defended yourself. However, past this it may be in your best interest to contact a lawyer before giving any more information to authorities. Check out this taped law school lecture about not talking to police, sent to me by one of our students. The lecture is almost an hour long, but packed with some good information for U.S. citizens. I pulled up the lecture on my iPhone and listened to it while driving.
